I may be digging into something I don't want to do myself. It's only because of the lack of knowledge and potential danger. Looks like I may be doing a clutch job on my 71 Commando if I can't get it to free up trying the roll down hill and pop into second method holding clutch in. Is there any good video on doing a clutch job on these bikes? I wish I had someone close to me who knows them. Nearest place is in Essex Junction which is 2 hours away. They no longer work on bikes but rather have some set up where you pay them to use the garage and do work yourself with guidance.

I am no expert but I would not try to free up clutch plates by "shocking" them, dumping the clutch on a down hill run. Gaskets are cheap, clutch diaphragm compression tool is about $25.00. Take the plates out and clean them, soak them in gasoline, ( outside), sorry I had to add that!. New ones are not that expensive. While you have the clutch apart inspect the clutch hub center for notches; www.google.com/search?q=Norton+commando+...rc=VAukYK6QTsEROM%3A
and install a Dyno Dave Clutch Rod seal.

You should only need to disassemble the clutch using the essential commando owners tool...the clutch spring extractor. It is HIGHLY unlikekly that you need to buy a new clutch pack. Most commando clutches can do 100,000 miles.
clean with kerosene or brake cleaner spray. gasoline would work but it's not necessary.
Yes put a CCRS.
shocking the clutch free is an extremely bad idea. Free up and cleaning the plates is pretty simple using the tool.
I moved your topic here to the tech talk section, which is the correct section for this.

Thank you guys. I did not read this prior to todays test. I started the bike on stand. Put into second gear and worked the clutch. It let go and is now working. My guess is that it was not to bad. Clutch is working, and I plan to change oil out. 90 wt. 7 oz?
