So I finally got my Mark III restoration project to the point that I was ready to fire it up for the first time this Saturday. With plugs out I kicked it over for about 10 minutes to get some oil through the pump. Plugs in. Gas in tank. tickle the carbs. Fire it up. GREAT thumping sound and smooth as could be. Nice!

So I let the motor warm up for a couple of minutes, and a very large pool of oil starts to form. Oil is pouring out between the head and block around the push rod tunnel. Plugs are completely fouled with oil. Head gasket appears to be junk. Hope the head isn't cracked. Time to buy some witworth sockets and pull the head off I guess. :(

Sorry bummer
????MKIII is 75 electric start.
IIRC wasn't it a 74/850
leak down check for giggles would tell the story.
Give me a call for best easy tear down procedure.
even shop manual is lacking the fine points.
1/4W and 5/16W socket, 1/4W box end must be thin wall,
probably a 7/16 US box (below exhaust) ???sometimes bigger whitworth if early hardware
