One thing not seen or mentioned, EVER, anywhere, is the prestolite armature is "single wrap/layer winding.
My nippondenso armature is a double wrap/layer winding that is measured at about 40% more field strength than
the single layer prestolite.version. Magnetism is IAW amp/turns all other things being equal. FWIW nippondenso does make an economy low power single layer,just like the prestolite. .
My starter uses only the 2 layer version.
All the upgrade hoops that the prestolite "upgraders" jump through, is still inferior to my starter.
ALSO
The ND 4 fields are each
21 turns of quadfilar copper wire yet the original prestolite 2 field windings are only
7 turns of copper strip while adding 2 more fields and 2 more brushes does improve it somewhat .
